5th Class really enjoy Music. While continuing their learning at home they have been listening and responding to some of their favourite songs.
5th Class are certainly talented artists. They have represented all of the things that they like and are grateful for in the form of these impressive silhouettes.
Today we learned about the importance of dialogue. Dialogue, from even the smallest info, can be extremely instructional. From just “dad, its dark out and I want dinner!” we can depict that the character speaking is hungry and possibly tired or bored, because “its dark out” said that it is late, and that the character could simply be hungry. It can also teach the reader about characters, see how the characters get along, help the story plot unfold, show the mood of the story, add drama or conflict and help show time or setting! Dialogue is also important because if the characters never spoke, we might not know who they are, or what they sounded like and such.
SH We have been learning about Lent and Ash Wednesday. In our classroom we had a prayer service with Father Rush and Patrick. Some children in our class read out prayers.
Catholic Churches ask you to do three things during Lent: to pray, to give up something you like or like to do and give to others for the forty days of Lent. The Ash Cross The ash cross represents that we have not lived up to the goodness that we have and that we will try again. The ashes are also a symbol that you will never live forever. The ashes come from palms. By C.K. and A.M. It was a normal day in 5th class until after little break. When we all had seen pancake toppings and mixture come out of the press. We all felt euphoric at the fact that we were having pancakes fit for a king at school. The toppings were extremely YUMMY and unique.
Here are the best ones:
Here is the famous recipe called: 'Pancakes fit for a king.' Gluten free
Pancakes
We all agree that pancakes fit for a king are the best on pancake Tuesday NM CS S’OR In fifth class this year we got sheets with quiz facts on them. They really helped us to know more facts for the quiz. After a couple of weeks of learning the quiz sheets the first big quiz came up for all the classes to see who would be picked for the six quiz teams from our school. Finally the teams were picked. Everyone who was picked for the teams was very proud of themselves.
QUIZ CLUB Then our sixth class teacher had a brilliant idea to start a quiz club on Thursdays and Friday every week, coming up to the Credit Union Quiz. Everyone enjoyed quiz club it was really fun. THE DAY OF THE QUIZ On the day of the quiz we were excited and nervous at the same time. There were seven children chosen from our class to take part. We were joined by another school. Altogether there were twelve teams, six under elevens and six under thirteen’s. The quiz started with some easy rounds and eventually the rounds got harder. The older teams had twelve rounds and the younger had ten rounds. After five rounds we got a break to relax our brains before the next few rounds. When we were finished our final rounds, the scores were announced and luckily enough we had one team to get through to the next round. There were also three teams in our school to get trophies. After all the trophies were given out everybody that took part in the quiz got a fizzy drink, a packet of crisps and lots of treats as well. WE WISH THE TWO WINNING TEAMS THE BEST OF LUCK IN THEIR NEXT QUIZ! From Scoil Naomh Buithe. 5TH CLASS GENERAL ELECTION 2020
This year in 5th class we were learning about the general election 2020. First we learned about democracy. Democracy is where people vote for who and what they want, this is the opposite of dictatorship. In the General Election people vote for the TD’s they want to have seats in the Dáil. Candidates put up posters of themselves to inform people that they are running in the upcoming election. They also go to people’s doors in their local area to try and persuade them to vote for them - this is also known as canvasing. The rules of the General Election The rules of the General Election are that when you are voting you can rank the candidates from 1 to 5. If you write outside the box it is called a spoilt vote. The rules of posters are that you have to take them down a week after the General Election. The candidates can only put the posters up 30 days before the election. Louth General Election In Louth there were 15 candidates and 5 seats to be filled. The quota was 11,778 and anybody who got over that was elected. Imelda Munster was the first to be elected in Louth with 17,203 votes which is 5,425 more over quota. Shortly after she was elected Ruairí Ó Murchú joined her along with Ged Nash, Fergus O’ Dowd and Peter Fitzpatrick. At the start Sinn Féin were in the lead with a lot of candidates being elected but near the end Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael got back into it. In the end it was a very exciting election. By B.C T.M And B.O.B Coming up to winter 2019 5th class from Scoil Naomh Buithe decided to collect some food for people who are not as lucky as us. We brought in non-perishable foods such as; beans, sweet corn, rice, chocolate, sauce , biscuits, pasta, jellies, tinned fruits, peas and much more. We were gathering food for about a month and put them in boxes. There were many boxes and they were pretty much full.
Our boxes were collected by the Drogheda homeless shelter and they were very grateful for our support. J.H. J.H J.H. D.C On the 3rd of February we went to the local church in Tenure to celebrate St. Blaise. We strolled down to the church at 9:30 am to be on time. We walked in and got a warm welcome from our Priest. He offered to bless our throats at the end of mass.
Our class was split into three pews before the mass began. We sat through a lovely, relaxing mass. Near the end of mass we received the holy bread. There was a very special artefact called the St. Peregrine relic; this protects you from cancer. Finally we got our throats blessed by our local Priest. While we were standing there, we noticed several people praying the rosary which we had started to pray at school. BR, JB. A few weeks ago we learned about electricity.
